Joel & Aleksander Duo
Norwegian Drummer Aleksander Helland-Olsen and Joel Slott met during their studies at the Academy for Music and Drama in Gothenburg. The idea behind the duo’s collaboration was originally to find existing and build new bridges between the traditions of Jazz- and Classical music and through that find completely new ways of interpreting and to some extent recreate the classical repertoar for solo piano. They soon found that adding ensemble elements to classical solo music reshapes the music in its core although it’s the exact same notes being played on the piano, the duo found that this opens up a completely new and never befor heard musical world of freedom to interpret and express new things with old music.
